Our Educators

Introducing Samm, our new Tumbi Umbi Centre Director!

samm child care director tumbi umbi
Samm has been teaching/directing for 20 years and has 3 degrees in Education. She is very
passionate about learning through play & believes it is because she grew up in the bush and had to
source their own fun. There were always loads of cousins running amuck in a paddock and learning
from each other.
Samm is a risky play, Anji play and Loose Parts advocate and on this, loves to challenge families to
truly understand what Risky play is and what is unsafe or Dodgy play!
Samm loves all curriculum areas, and the investiture of understanding where these concepts grow
and the linkage to children’s imaginations and interests, and how they can be nourished through
play is vital.
She is a huge advocate for children with additional requirements, and can speak two languages,
English and Auslan. Samm has 4 boys of her own, all over 6 feet tall and 1 happens to be profoundly
deaf and mute, so they as a family are part of the Deaf community on the Central Coast.
Through acquiring her degree in Special needs, and her interest in language acquisition with her son,
she was a part of the Shepard Centre Language program, so is qualified to teach a Phonic program
that develops the mechanics of speech through acquisition and pronunciation /enunciation skills
using Phonics.
Samm looks forward to enjoying another busy and engaging year ahead!
